Interim New Rochelle Schools Superintendent Alex Marrero issued an alert to the community late on Monday, Jan. 4 advising that two staff members tested positive for COVID-19 -- one at Daniel Webster Magnet School and one who works for the Facilities Department.
Marrero said that the staff member at Webster was last in the building on Monday, but went home upon learning of the test results.
The school is currently in the process of identifying and notifying anyone who came into contact with the staff member for more than 10 minutes. Anyone who is alerted will be instructed to enter quarantine for at least 10 days, per state guidance.
According to Marrero, the facilities employee was in contact with three other staff members, who have been told to quarantine.
Custodial crews have been called in and instructed to concentrate their efforts on areas impacted by the two staff members.
Since the state began tracking COVID-19 cases in schools in September, New Rochelle has seen a total of 175 infections in students, with an additional 33 in faculty and staff members.
The county Department of Health is monitoring 810 active COVID-19 cases in New Rochelle as of Tuesday, Jan. 5.
